BTC teachers are challenged to grow personally and spiritually through communal living.
Life in Community
Most cohorts range from 6-8 teachers per cohort. At any given time there are 2 cohorts living together in community. The fellows share responsibilities within the community such as cooking and daily chores. Each fellow has their own room while there are common rooms, a library, a laundry room and a kitchen available to everyone. The hosting parish is incredibly welcoming and provides many opportunities for engagement. |
Community Nights
Three times a week, the community gathers to spend intentional time with one another. These nights include a family style dinner, a community mass and prayer night, and sometimes a fun night where community members choose to explore the city and all its entertainments or have a quiet night in! |
Spirituality
Every week, one of the community nights is dedicated to remembering why we are here: to love and serve Christ and his people. Our prayer nights include an intimate mass in our community chapel, a dinner together (usually made by Program Director Fr. Ronny O'Dwyer), and a time to reflect, pray and share together. This time together is critical as it allows a place for the community members to be vulnerable with each other and support each other through the many challenges they may face. In addition to the weekly prayer nights, Billiken fellows also attend three retreats throughout the year. This time is an opportunity to retreat from our daily lives to remind ourselves of our purpose and to reflect on where God is calling us to next. |
