The Program

Founded in 2015, the Billiken Teacher Corps exists to grow strong educators with a heart for service.

TEACH ME.

The Billiken Teacher Corps is founded on three pillars that challenge teachers to live our mission. The three pillars -Service Learning, Graduate Education and Personal and Spiritual Formation in Community - create teachers prepared to take on the challenges facing students today.

Billiken Teacher Corps teachers take on the mantra of "Teach Me."
It is the student saying to his/her teacher, "Teach Me."
It is the teacher saying to his/her student, "Teach Me."
It is all of us saying to Christ our ultimate teacher, "Teach Me."

SERVE.

Billiken Teacher Corps fellows teach in K-12 classrooms in Catholic Schools in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area.

Fellows are placed in high needs schools and given mentor supports to help them succeed.
"My favorite part of my experience has without a doubt been the relationships I’ve developed with my students. They somehow find a way to instantly make me laugh after making me want to pull my hair out daily... I am so proud of every one of them. My students have inspired me in a myriad of ways, but most of all they have taught me that the most important thing you can do as a teacher is to simply love your students."

LEARN.

Billiken Teacher Corps fellows earn a Master's of Arts in Teaching with full tuition remission from St. Louis University.

If not already certified, they also earn certification in the state of Missouri.
"The support I have received during this first year of teaching is truly phenomenal. My mentors, faculty, BTC community members, and even my students have supported me as I learn and grow. This support has allowed me to be transformed by my failures as well as my successes. This program has transformed me into a more flexible and teachable person, and while I still have much more to learn, I am grateful to this program for giving me opportunities to be transformed."

GROW.

The Billiken Teacher Corps is committed to each fellow's personal and spiritual growth.

By living in community together, they learn to live, support, and love each other through the challenges of being a new teacher.
"My community members are there to put everything into perspective and to remind me that while I receive so much joy from all of them I'm also called to return it back. Every day there are new opportunities to experience and spread joy and I'm so grateful for those opportunities."
- Elise BTC 1

TEACH ME. by St. Ignatius of Loyola

Lord, teach me to be generous,
to serve you as you deserve,
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to look for any reward,
save that of knowing that I do your holy will.
